Lost Season 4 Episode 1 Lost S04E01
Well the new season started the other day in the US, firstly with a prequel to the season reminding everyone what had happened in the previous season, and then the new episode (entitled “The Beginning Of The End”).
In typical Lost style, the season opener begins with a bang SPOILER ALERT with a high speed car chase, and after the car crashes Hugo appears from the sports car, and gets dragged off by the police screaming “I’m one of the oceanic six!”, a little later on in an interrogation room, an officer is questioning him about why he had run from a convenience store, and Hugo seems a little bit confused and scared by the whole affair, the policeman leaves him alone to think about what had gone on, and whilst alone Hugo sees the one way mirror turn into a vision of Charlie in his hoodie swimming toward the window, with the words “THEY NEED YOU” written on his hand, as Charlie bangs the glass harder and harder the glass fractures flooding the interrogation room, ending with Hugo pleading with the officers to be committed to a mental institution.
Once in the hospital Hugo seems quite happy playing connect four when a nurse tells him that he has a visitor, the man introduces himself as Matthew Abbadon, and pretends to be from the airline, offering to upgrade Hurley’s level of care to a five star institute, Hugo says he is fine, and doesn’t want anything more than he already has, Hurley gets a little suspicious of Abbadon and asks for his business card, which he obviously cant as he doesn’t have any. Abbadon then gets much more serious and asks “Are they still alive?” this freaks Hurley out, and he has to be restrained by an orderly. Later in the institute Hugo is sat in the grounds and another patient tells him that a man is watching him, he turns and sees Charlie and tries to run away, Charlie calms him down and Hurley tells of how he saw him in the convenience store and that was why he freaked out, because Charlie is dead, Charlie agrees and confirms that he is indeed dead, but that Hurley has to do something which he has been avoiding, and that “you know they need you” Hurley gets scared again and closes his eyes counting to five, when he re-opens his eyes Charlie has disappeared.
Jack turns up at the mental institute after seeing Hurley’s chase on TV, and is wondering about his mental state and if he has told anyone, Hurley confirms that he hasn’t and that the Island wants them back at all costs, Jack states that he will never go back, and Hurley replies “Never say never, dude,” as he leaves the basketball court.
As usual flashbacks are prevalent, and we flit between the current day, and back in the jungle, reminding us of how John threw a knife into Naomi’s back for contacting the new others. Hugo stands beside a Dharma van and contacts Jack with a walkie to find out if he has contacted the freighter, he then confesses to Bernard that he has always wanted to do a cannonball from the island, and he does just that diving in to the ocean, but as he surfaces he sees Charlie and Desmond’s boat being dragged back onto the shore, quickly rushing over Desmond tells everyone of Charlie’s demise and also of what he wrote on his hand “Not Penny’s Boat”, after a short argument about what to do Sawyer suggests calling jack on the radio to inform him of what had happened, and not to talk to the new comers, buy Sayid says it might not be a good idea as they would probably be monitoring their conversations, just then Hurley seizes the radio from Sawyer and throws it into the Ocean, then they all grab their weapons and head off in search of Jack and the rest of the group at the radio tower.
Back at the radio tower Ben begs Rousseau to take Alex away from the area, believing that she is in great danger from the new people on the freighter, just then the newcomers try to contact Jack, and tell him that they are having problems locking onto their location with the Sat phone, Jack offers to change the settings but the man asks for Naomi, Jack bluffs and tells the man that she has gone for firewood, not wanting to tell them that their friend is dead, he says that he will try to find her, but as he turns around he sees that Naomi is gone! Rousseau finds a trail of blood and her Jack and Ben get ready to set off and find her, but Kate also locates a second trail and suggests splitting up, Jack disagrees and heads off with Rousseau, after a long hug from Kate where she takes the sat phone from Jack’s back pocket.
After a while of hunting through the jungle Rousseau tells jack that the trail has ended, and that Naomi has tricked them, just then jack reaches down to find the sat phone, and realises that Kate has taken it, something Ben takes great delight in mocking him for, we then go back to Kate who is similarly trying to find Naomi, she reaches the end of her trail, and just then as she stands under a tree, blood starts to drip down on her arm, as she looks up Naomi drops on her from a tree, and puts a knife to her throat, confused as to why her so called friends would try to kill her, Kate manages to convince her just in time that it was all down to John, and the Sat phone rings, Naomi bluffs “George” and changes the sat phone frequency so they can be located, just before she dies.
Back with the group from the beach, Hugo is starting to fall behind and gets separated in the jungle, unfortunately for him he stumbles upon Jacob’s cabin, and hears the whispering and sees a light in the cabin, as he approaches he looks through a break in the glass and sees Dr Christian Shepard (Jack’s father) in the rocking chair, as he tries to make out who it is, a figure appears at the window, and all you can see is his eye, Hurley runs for his life dropping his torch and ends up in a field, closing his eyes hoping the nightmare will go away, just then John Locke appears. Hugo tells John of the current situation and of how Charlie died and the message he left for them, John agrees that if Jack contacts the boat then Charlie will have died for nothing.
Hurley and Locke set off into the jungle to find the others, and finally end up at the fuselage where Sayid and the others are waiting for Hurley, Sayid starts to argue with John about why he blew up the sub, but just as John is about to respond the rest of the islanders appear, Hurley breaks the news to Claire of Charlie’s death. Locke and Hugo explain to the group about Charlies message, and Locke says he is going to the “Others” barracks as it is the only defend able part of the island, he then says “If you want to live, you’ll come with me.”, Jack believe that no one will follow Locke, but Hugo, Claire, Alex,
Ben, Rousseau, Sawyer and quite a few of the unnamed players all follow him.
A little later Jack and Kate are peering into the cabin of the plane, and hear what they think is Thunder, just then the noise breaks and becomes clearer - its a helicopter, Jack and Kate follow the noise just in time to see a parachutist falling to the ground, and as they reach the man he takes off his helmet and asks “are you jack?”
